Tomorrow, July 28, Portland City Council will vote on a formal resolution on single -use plastic bags that:
- Supports passage of a staewide ban in the 2011 Legislative session
- Commits the city to pursuing an ordinance in 2011 if the state bill fails.
This approach was recently agreed upon during a meeting between state lawmakers and the mayor’s office and you can read the read the draft resolution here. Needless to say a big turnout tomorrow will be key to support bag ban efforts moving forward.
So what can you do? Join us! Show up tomorrow no later than 11:00 am at City Hall Council Chambers to testify, dress in costume or just show up wearing your ban the bag t-shirt in support!
The city council will be discussing the resolution and ordinance promptly at 11:00 am on agenda which can be found here. To testify, just sign up on the sheet just outside of council chambers and indicate which agenda item (Bag Ban Discussion) you would like to speak about.
If you can’t make it tomorrow but still want to make your voice heard, head on over and comment on the Mayor’s draft resolution here.
