Ban the Bag Day of Action: July 14, 2010
Mark your calendars… we’re planning a big ole day of action, and we need as much support as possible! (Don’t worry, there’s beer involved).
What: Ban the Bag Day of Action — Rally, testimony in front of City Council and even a celebratory pint night.
When: July 14, 2010
Where: Portland
Here’s the schedule:
8:30 a.m. – Early bird gets the worm (or in this case, free schwag). Meet at City Hall in Downtown Portland (1221 SW 4th Avenue) to show support while our faithful leaders give testimony to City Council on single-use plastic bags. We need to pack Council Chambers with people wearing Ban the Bag shirts.
As an incentive to come EARLY, if you R.S.V.P. ahead of time, you will receive a FREE Ban the Bag American Apparel t-shirt and reusable bag. R.S.V.P. to tara.gallagher84[at]gmail[dot]com with your name and preferred shirt size.
9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Testimony and support in front of City Council featuring Stiv Wilson of the 5 Gyres Project, Staj Pace, Chair of the Portland Chapter of Surfrider Foundation, Travis Williams of Willamette Riverkeepers and Bob Sallinger, Conservation Director for the Audubon Society.
12:00 p.m. – RALLY on the steps of City Hall. We need to make some noise! There will be speakers, music and special appearances by the Bag Monsters and of course some rally fun surprises. Bring your lunch. Bring your energy. Bring your friends. It will be entertaining, engaging and fun…you really don’t want to miss this.
6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. – Pint Night at Keen HQ. Ninkasi beer on tap. We’ll be selling Surfrider and Ninkasi pint glasses as a fundraiser!
The best way to show your support for a ban on single-use plastic bags is to show up at any or all of these events! If you can’t make it on the big day, please take the time to write the City Commissioners or give them a call and let them know that this is the kind of Portland we want to live in.
